This lesson helps young students explore the mission and purpose of the National Park system in the United States. It also enables students to identify the southwestern United States, Arizona and Grand Canyon. By the end of the lessons students will be able to locate Grand Canyon on a map of the United States. Students will also be introduced to materials and activities in the Travelin’ Trunk. You may also choose to have students “create” a national park in the supplemental activity. It is hoped that as students increase their knowledge of and appreciation for Grand Canyon National Park they will focus on those interesting and beautiful places worth visiting and protecting near their homes.
